World No. 1 took his game to another gear during his weekend rounds at the WGC Bridgestone. DJ posted scores of 69 and 71 on Thursday and Friday before flipping the switch to fire 66 and 64 on Saturday and Sunday. That switch wasn’t only figurative, as DJ made a rare mid-tournament equipment change prior to his Saturday round.

In the days leading up to tournament play at Firestone Country Club, DJ put in some work with TaylorMade's Tour putter guru, Chris Trott, to explore some minor alterations. The two landed on a couple of new builds that would be ready for DJ to try during practice rounds of this week’s PGA Championship.

Just before wrapping up his final practice round on Wednesday, Dustin asked to just see what type of putters we had on-site. He was promptly shown all the offerings we had available, ranging from Spider putters to the entire TP Collection. DJ haphazardly picked a silver Spider Mini and requested to have it altered to his spec; more as an experimental alignment change to use during putting practice than a true consideration for tournament play.

“We left a quick note on the putter and dropped it in DJ’s locker, assuming he’d be unlikely to put it into action,” said TaylorMade Tour Representative, Cameron Jacobs.

Then, the unlikely became reality on Saturday when DJ put Spider Mini Diamond Silver in play en route to gaining 4+ strokes on the field with the new flatstick.

Here’s the detailed specs of the same Spider Mini DJ has been rolling around Bellerive during the practice rounds of this week’s PGA Championship practice rounds:

Model: Spider Mini Diamond Silver

Alignment: T sightline

Length: 35.5”

Shaft: Black Double-Bend

Lie: 70°

Swingweight: E-0

Grip: GT 1.0 SuperStroke with 50g Counterbalance weight

Stay tuned as DJ makes his push for the Wannamaker on Thursday to see if he keeps his new Spider Mini in play. It would be a major equipment change ahead of a major tournament—but based on the way he rolled it at Firestone, DJ looks poised to combine his power off the tee with a pure roll on the green in his pursuit of the 2018 PGA Championship.

He's on fire right now coming off the RBC Canadian Open win and 3rd place finish at WGC Bridgestone. Can't wait to see him dominate the (likely slow) Bellerive greens with this new flat stick.

I really like this setup and it is very similar to what I inquired about and was told that it was not available. I just opened a separate thread... Hopefully I can order a similar setup to test out.
